George Whitfield Jack

A US judge for the Western District of Louisiana, George Jack was nominated by Pres. Woodrow Wilson on March 6, 1917, to the seat vacated by Alexander Boarman. Confirmed by the Senate on March 16, he received his commission on March 16, 1917. Educated at Tulane University, Jack engaged in private practice in Shreveport from 1898 to 1910, as Shreveport city attorney from 1910 to 1913, and as US attorney for the Western District of Louisiana from 1913 to 1917. He was the father of Wellborn Jack Sr., an attorney and politician who served in a number of elected capacities in Shreveport and Caddo Parish, and of Maj. Gen. Whitfield Jack, who was on the staff of Gen. Matthew Ridgway at the close of World War II and delivered Ridgway’s famous surrender request to German field marshal Walter Model.
